Modlist : 200SX RS13 swap RB25DET
Hello guys,
My name is Stéphane (like Steven, if you want), I come from France and I live in France.
I'm 25 years old, like engines and mechanic...my job is to work on engine (test bench) : R&D.
In the past, I worked for Citroën, Garrett (for Audi and BMW too) and Peugeot.
I like to travel, that's why, I bought this "RBS13" (thanks to Pipiras & Giegus) in Kaunas.
I think I'll come back in your country (maybe this year, but by air!), which I found beautiful.
So, let's talk about the real subject...my new NIssan!!
Here it is :
- '89 NISSAN 200SX RS13 (metallic grey)
- RB25DET engine swap (from a Skyline R33 GTS-25T spec.2)
- Walbro fuel pump (255L/h)
- fu**ing big air filter
- by-pass valve (just re-installed) --> soon photos
- fu**ing noisy exhaust line (76mm)
- gearbox and LSD (from the Skyline)
- stock clutch (Patrol/Skyline)
- stock servo-brake/"master-vac"
--> no ABS any more ( )
- stock master cylinder
- 4 pistons front callipers (from the Skyline)
- front discs re-drilled in 4 x 114.3 (from the Skyline)
- 2 pistons rear callipers (from the Skyline)
- rear discs re-drilled in 4 x 114.3 (from the Skyline)
- front seats (from the Skyline)
- dashboard (from the Skyline)
- dead suspensions (stock?/lowered)
- dead tires 205/55/16
- 5-spoked white 16" x 7.5" rims, ET35, 4 x 114.3
That's all for today!!!
I love it :

PS : I hope you enjoy reading English...it's not my cup of tea, but I think it would be worse (for you) in French
PS2 : Giegus/Pipiras, feel free to correct what's not good! --> thanks for the fuel pump!

Hello!
@ gweedo : Thanks! It will have a lot to see here later...between rust and welding!
@ doggy : I bought the car as it is yet : the swap was done.
@ Pipiras : Hi, how are you doing? Thanks for your link about the welding of chassis
I'm gonna do the same this year...
For the Walbro pump, you're right, I forgot it! (-->edited in the first post)
@ zhy : I like your avatar! Is this Citroën DS yours??
For the use of the car...I would say road, and why not circuit (occasionaly).
Let's look at some pictures!
- The front brakes :
- The rear brakes :
- The dashboard :
- Isn't it an Alfa Romeo??? :
- With stock tail lights :
- Noisy muffler :
- The exhaust line and the LSD :
- The turbocharger and the steering column :
- The oil cooler and oil pressure sensor :

Hello everybody!
Some old news...
- The certificate of conformity coveted:
- The Technical Inspection (do not watch the result!)
- A newcomer to date, the provisional certificate of registration:
(@ Giegus/Pipiras : it's OK, I'm "allowed" to drive the car in France...but with 1.8l papers!!)

Re: Modlist : 200SX RS13 swap RB25DET
Is it really that complicated to register imported JP car in France ? One of my mates went through hell of a problems while trying to register his stock UK reg JZS161. Eventually he dropped that idea and sold the car in UK.

Re: Modlist : 200SX RS13 swap RB25DET
If the car comes with German documents +TUV - there is NO PROBLEMS to register any kind of car in almost ANY EU country...But if its a import from LT with LT documents - ussualy LT registration is treated like a Zimbabve registation - no one cares about it - and it gets really hard...

Yes it's really complicated for cars wich wasn't homologated in France...like Skylines / Mk.IV Supra TT / FD3S RX-7 / 22B Impreza / GTO TT (etc).
But for cars like the 200SX, it's quite easy : you just have to do the same papers and 2 things more.
(don't forget that the car was Lithuanian, so it's in EEA, it would have been complicated when the car was from Japan...)
These 2 things are :
- The certificate of conformity (costs 149€, by Nissan)
- The taxe clearance (0€ because of EEA)
add to this the usual "papers", and it's OK!!
See you...

Dump-valve mounting ... a lot of photos!
Mounting of the dump and new pressure/vacuum connections.
The waste-gate was connected to the plenum
Uh, say what? I took this picture because, uh, well ... (I don't remember) :
No more dump-valve!
My new Waste-gate connecting (to be shortened) output SMIC :
:
Two pipes clogged, a probe near the idle motor not connected (???) :
First seen on the turbo, turbo's shaft has 1mm of axial running (surge?), the rest is OK :
Second seen on the small compressor :
The following work :
A day later...
Ultimately I removed everything and made a home-made by-pass piping!
Focus on the stock RB dump-valve :
A bad adventure to put that damn blow-by hose I almost lost 2 fingers ... and my patience!
The waste-gate and its new connection, shortened, from the IC's exit :
Mounting overview without compressor's outlet piping :
Bottom view, let's do it!
That is finished up, left view :
Front overview, it's fairly well integrated:
Another view, from above:
When it's dark, you've got a ratchet, but there's no space for your hands, and there is a metallic clamp ... result :

Hello everybody!
@ Big-L : You can buy special engine and gearbox mounts for this swap (and keep your RS13 crossmember), or use the "full set" of the skyline...
But if you want me to make photos of these, there's no problem!
@ Pipiras : thanks dude! Do you know the power of the RB25DET (stock)?
I think it's near 250hp (and 320N.m of torque)...but I would know at how much boost??
Last week, I received stock rear suspension, and fitted it : it's a lot better than before : springs were cut, and dampers dead!
This week, I'll receive the stock front suspension with the tension rods...mine are dead too!!
See you soon (with pictures)!

Re: Modlist : 200SX RS13 swap RB25DET
BACK TO THE RUSTY13 :
Beginning of the dismantling, hood already removed (without flash) :
View of mechanics before the start of hostilities :
After several hours of mechanical :
The same with the flash, marking suggests that the piece is not one of origin (comes from Germany, like the car), as many things :
The hatch of the gear lever, the Skyline crossmember makes the engine too far forward by about 5cm :
And these 5cm could be earned here, between the engine and apron :
Another view with flash a bit more above :
The engine ready to be out :
Another from above we already see a little rust in places where we don't want it to be :
After removing the right rear seat belt, the engine was attached :
Another view with flash, the belt stands herself behind the engine mounts, and the palm in the oil sump :
First the box was loose and a wheel below to support, but it interfered with the removal :
After leaving the box hung on the ground, everything goes easier, the bulk of the work is done, the only remaining thing is PUMPING :
A little more work done, pay attention to the oil sump on the front :
Yeah, it was drained but it pees all over because the engine is a little tilted 40° here :
Uhuuu, It is past! (the cylinder of the crane workshop up high enough), it remains to ease the box :
Here it is, just to show :
And then from another angle :
So I attached the gearbox's butt to free up space, pushing the car :
Latest photos to show the whole set :
Right! These are rims from a 106 Rallye (2 Gen.), were before on my Citroën AX :
It's quite cumbersome and when people who drive FWD cars see it, they make big eyes :
So, small week dismantling, everything has almost been done on weekend and alone in one day.

Re: Modlist : 200SX RS13 swap RB25DET
2 years too late, but just to show how it ended...
The 3rd RS13 I bought (500€ with paper but injectors dead) :
View on the RB25's transmission :
The LSD, mixed up from RS13 and R33 GTS25-T :
The engine alone, still closed :
Clutch mecanism (it seems that Patrol have the same) :
Clutch disc after about 10000km, in really good condition :
Intercooler fron the ECR33, almost the same as the onr from the RS13, and easy to install :
Useless picture :
Rust on right's underbody :
Another one to show :
Quickly poorly done, so after a few months it ended like this :
The left one, not better :
Just to show the middle :
Shortened shaft (from a RS13?) to fit the RB25DET+trans on Skyline crossmember in a RS13 :
Storage room ... and fiber underbody, obscuring rust :
A friend of mine swapping his RS13 with 2JZ wanted a button, so I let him work inside :
Audi Q7 (NOT) :
Voilà où j'en suis, reste à enlever le carter d'huile pour regarder
Removing the oil pan :
Nice stock pan, not like some other engines :
The rod bearings :
Closer :
I put n°1 on the timing side :
2nd bearing :
3rd bearing :
4th bearing :
5th bearing :
And, as you can guess...the sixth :
My special tool, home made (really expensive ) :
The next day...
Without the dashboard :
Still rust in picture :
BEfore removing the carpet :
Surpriiiise, it's really rotten :
From inside :
After punching and kicking :
Without carpet and harness :
A previous "fix" under the passenger seat :
Closer, seems to bee poorly MIG welded :
Still on the left side :
After some movement :
And here too there's holes caused by rust :
Closer :
There's a few spots like this, "fixed" in the past, maybe because of an accident :
Now I'm done with you, go out :
Oops, my beer is still there :
Another useless picture :
I guess it will help the welding machine :
My friend helped me to remove the rear axle :
The iron bar, a usefull tool :
After the end of the afternoon, some bits remaining under the car :
The glazings and the diff oil cooler have to be done later :
So, adios R(U)S(TY)13...your parts will go in another shell!
